Neighborhood Round-up: Introducing Deborah!
Deborah Burns on 06 20, 2007
[Editor's note: When I noticed that Deborah Burns was writing a most wonderful blog about Seattle's Urban Villages, I could help but hope that she make take a part in helping to write about Seattle neighborhoods on RCG! And to my great pleasure, she agreed! Deborah has been with RCG for a long time (she even attended our first RCG meet-up back in April '06). One of the things Deborah has offered to do is to take over the neighborhood roundups I started a while back, which seems more than appropriate considering her interests... However, I sincerely hope she doesn't limit her involvement to this genre.
Without further ado, I'm happy to welcome Deborah as the newest RCG contributor!]
So…here we go….
Over in Alki Summer Dreaming is manifesting itself on a plate at dinner and it looks oh so yummy…. Beach Drive Blog spotted a photo of a telephone pole with a poster of a handsome young dog lookin’ for love!
Ballard Avenue also posts a photo of a telephone pole with an application for P.U.G.s and one of the questions was: “Can pugs be spotted?” At large in Ballard ’s Dad passed along an article in The Boston Globe about Ballard, both it’s Nordic past and it’s trendiness today (see if you can spot the CEO of an innovative Seattle real estate company who makes an appearance at Cupcake Royal in the article) and ALIB defines “Hipness” for her PI readers.
Capitol Hill host a pizza & boxed wine party to welcome Art Cars to Seattle and The Fremont Solstice Fair. Red Brick Blog poses the eternal summer question…where’s the pool?
Miller Park Neighborhood Association has a eye grabbing headline: “Miller Neighbors buy drugs for one year old on Madison” a ‘catastrophe’ in the making. West Seattle Blog counts down to Emergency Preparedness this Saturday, are you disaster proof?
So go for a little virtual drive around the neighborhoods, take in the sights and stories.

Welcome to RCG, Deborah…What a fun post! You’ve covered a lot of ground.
Thanks for the great links, Deborah, and welcome! I wanted to get this great shot of Rhonda and Company up here in RCG. We had a fun time and I appreciate the link to the part of the parade I missed.
Here’s Rhonda!
Hi Rhonda and ARDELL, thanks to you both and to Dustin for the warm welcome to Rain City Guide!
As Dustin wrote, I have been a follower of RCG for quite awhile. When I came upon Dusitn’s cool site in January of 2006 I was inspired to become a part of this exciting new format and eventually began my own blog. This is such an honor for me, thank you Dustin!
The Fremont Solstice Pre-Parade and Parade was a blast, what an explosion of creative, frolicking fun!
What a great article and great links. Deborah, thanks a bunch!
‘ello Moneypenny,
‘ard at work I see…”M” called for me, did she now? Sure as Bob’s your uncle, I’ll be mucking about in the service of God, Queen & Country in no time. Simply no rest for a double-O, you know.
BTW…I dare say a most splendid post! Very happy indeed to see your bright smiling face on RCG! Keep up the good work!
James Bond
Thank you John, and you’re welcome!
JB, thanks for the welcome!
Fabulous links Deborah! I am definitely dragging my roommate to Market St. in Ballard, sounds really neat and eclectic. Welcome! I look forward to your future posts! Being a new resident, I know any info on the neighborhoods will help me immensely!
Thanks Karen!
You and your roommate should definitly check out the Fremont Sunday Flea Market…lots of interesting stuff there too. There are vendors selling one of a kind designed garments, imports, collectibles, retro furniture and other odd and marvelous things. And you can tell your friends back home in Chicago that you went to the “Center of the Universe”! Here’s a post I did about a visit to Fremont earlier this year: http://activerain.com/blogsview/48359/Flea-Market-Fun-in
Have lots of fun exploring Seattle…I did, and still do!
Deborah,
Kirkland has a Wednesday Market this time of year and I noticed Wallingford has one on the same day. Do you know anything about Wallingford’s Wednesday Market?
Hi ARDELL,
No, I haven’t been to that particular one (yet!) but here is a great link for it: http://www.fremontmarket.com/wallingford/ Here is the one for Walllingford Center (no address is on the site for the first link) : http://wallingfordcenter.com/index.html
The Wallingford Farmer’s Market is open 3 to 7 PM now through Sept 26 this year.
Here is the link for all Farmer’s Markets in Puget Sound: http://dnr.metrokc.gov/wlr/farms/farmers_markets.htm You can just put in what county, and what day of the week to get a list of Farmer’s Markets…it’s a great resource!
Have fun at the Kirkland Farmer’s Market ARDELL!
Welcome to RCG Deborah. Great post with losts of great sites. Thanks for the mention as well. As the summer gets going, this little Eastside urban neighborhood blog should start getting filled up with a lot more interesting content.
Cheers
I used to live in Fremont. Gosh I miss it. The Sunday Market, great shops, interesting characters, and a lot of great places to grab a beer. Back when I lived there, you could still buy a craftsman-style fixer for under $275K. I thought that was high at the time and decided to hold off until the market came back down…it never did.
I used to run from Fremont up around Green Lake and Woodland Park. It was the only time in my life I’ve ever actually ENJOYED running. The only thing I can think is that the sights of the neighborhood offered enough distraction to make what is normally an unpleasant experience, one that is actually enjoyable. The particular summer I am thinking of, I think we went 90 days without rain–it literally did not rain all summer–and every day was a PERFECT 80-degree sunny day. It was fantastic.
Mukilteo is nice but it’s not the center of the universe!
Thank you Rebecca! I look forward to reading more of Red Brick Blog and sharing it with everyone. I will have a Neighborhood Round-up on Friday, it’ been a busy week for me.
Hi Sandy, yes, there is no place like the “Center of the Universe”! Wow, running up Fremont to Green Lake and around the lake…that is quite a run! I have walked around the lake, run…um not for me!
