K.D Lang has an amazing voice. She does an awesome rendition of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah, a song I know from West Wing. If you look it up on YouTube, find the Juno Awards version.
I was surprised that many of the people I spoke with were from Tacoma and didn’t travel far to see her. My sister and I were also surprised that the woman we were speaking with in the next seat, Gina Pallumbo of Tacoma, was Italian. The Palumbo’s we know from the old neighborhood only use one L. Gina was charming and good company during the breaks.
Kim ran into Craig of Blueringer and his wife.
It was stifling hot in the theater, so hot I actually had to take my socks off, as did some of the other people in the Theater. I wasn’t the only one with my socks in my pocket. It was hard getting through the opening act for that reason, but once K.D. came on, we forgot all about the heat.
Still, to this day, it seems K.D. can’t find herself. She was barefooted and what she wanted to sing wasn’t what the audience wanted to hear. Reminded me of the old Ricky Nelson “Garden Party” song when they wanted him to sing Mary Lou forever.
She didn’t do “Crying” even though people were practically screaming it at her and she seemed annoyed at them and vice versa regarding the selection of songs.
I was the first one on my feet when she did Hallelujah, but I got excited as soon as I heard her say “Leonard Cohen”.
My sister drags me out from time to time, otherwise I rarely stop working 🙂 It was a nice evening break. The Museum of Glass had just closed its Dante exhibit and hadn’t replaced it yet. My sister goes and watches Lino whenever he comes to town and is a patron there, but frankly there was more to see in The Store than in the Museum.
I enjoyed K.D. more than I did Joan Baez…so I guess that’s “saying something” 🙂

hi ardell ~ thanks so much for the review and i found it alittle sad that the audience didn’t seem to be so into the concert. her watershed album is alittle quieter than the rest of the albums of her past but just as beautiful. i’m glad you had fun and appreciate you taking the time.

I agree janina. I was in the very last row on the floor level, so I could see most of the audience. There was a sadness that was palpable at times. “Expectations” and whether they are met or not. or even if the can be met, is a recurring theme in life these days.
Whether it be the stock market or the housing market or a K.D. Lang concert, people’s expectations often have more to do with the result being less than satisfactory, than “the performance” itself.
thanks for the info and would you pls tell me what you thought about the k.d. lang show? i hope you had fun. enjoy your day, janina

How was K.D.?

Interesting, I am going to have to lookup her music now. I have never heard of her before, but I love multi instrumentalists.
hope you had a great time!
