It Never Rains in Seattle

At least it never rains on the Google StreetView car.

As you virtually walk the neighborhoods of Seattle with StreetView (It’s New! Yesterday!), you’ll see some cloudy days:

But no rainy days.

When I was growing up, my dad’s favorite description of Seattle came from a “give us a slogan contest” on the radio: Living in Seattle is like being married to a beautiful woman who is always sick.

Thankfully, Google StreetView is only showing us Seattle on her better days. Here is some virtual sight-seeing for ya:

  1. Ardell I LOVE your dad’s saying about Seattle being like a beautiful woman who’s always sick. That is riotously funny. Seattle is indeed a stunning city, but the weather there is a deterrant for a sun dependent person like me.

  2. Hi Mary! I didn’t write this post and my Dad never left Philly. “kicked around the same six blocks all of his life” as they say šŸ™‚

I thought of this post as I was out in the rain today, Galen. What we need is a shot of people walking the streets in the rain…with no umbrella in sight. What I love most about Seattle is how the people act like its not raining and just go about their business as if the sun is out. It takes some practice, and I use hoods at times (never an umbrella) but until you learn to walk in the rain as if it isn’t raining at all…you won’t make it in Seattle.

I hate movies that are supposedly in Seattle that show 50 umbrellas in the shot. They’ve obviously never been here in the rain.
