A while back I spelled Seatttle with…

Dustin on 02 26, 2008

three “t’s” on the sidepanel and was surprised just how much traffic it brought. Because I was more concerned with being professional than traffic, I fixed the type, but Mary just reminded me of the effectiveness of the error, so I thought I’d try it out again! :)

And if you are looking for Seattle real estate information, dont’ be discouraged if you landed on this page! ;) We’ve got tons of great stuff on this site!

To highlight just a few: Ardell gives local condition stats ever Sunday, Rhonda provides mortgage rate updates every Friday, and I wrote a post about moving to Seatttle a while back that is loaded with questions, answers, insights, dangers, etc. from people. (There are almost 500 comments to date!)

  1. That is pretty funny Dustin – I have done the same thing and also was surprised at how effective it was, although I am still trying to go back now and correct some of those:) I love RCG, though! Keep up the great work – despite other claims, this actually is the best local real estate blog in my opinon because of all the great contributors!!!!

  2. I have no misspells on my site, but a lot of them on my blog. Cotsa Rica, Costa Riac etc.
Would like to know what the percentage of searches performed include a misspell somewhere.

  3. I was pretty embarrassed to learn I spelled principal wrong…it was actually from a post that SB borrowed (with my blessing). One of the readers ripped me for it…hey I’m good at math–not spelling! ;) When I googled “principle and interest”…I was tops. I corrected “principle” where it appeared in my personal blog and I believe I just lined it out here at RCG, where the post that SB borrowed originated from.

I always thought principal was your “pal” (like the principal of your school)…I’ve got it straight now!

Hope I don’t have any typo’s in this comment! ;)

  5. … but fascinatingly, Google treats [seatttle real estate] identical to [seattle real estate]. Those google guys are too smart!

  6. Dustin,

Very funny. Such an easy tactic to implement and in many cases, oddly effective! I generally recommend the use of a typo where visitors won’t be as inclined to see it as I don’t want to make anyone look like they lost their third grade spelling bee. The best place is in the post slug- or if you have self healing urls- put it in the post title then go back and correct it later. Thanks for the mention,
    Mary
